Shedeur Sanders doesn’t ‘like or respect’ move from Browns fans

After the veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson started the Cleveland Browns’ first preseason game, first-year head coach Todd Monken elected to have second-year talent Shedeur Sanders start the second one, as the two go head-to-head for the starting job.
“I have my reasons for how it’s going to go, and it’s still a competition,” Monken said of his process. “We’re excited to watch guys practice today, let alone on Saturday, and then next week against Buffalo, and we’ll get a chance to see them both.
“Every week we’ll assess it. It’ll be a little bit more difficult with the player that doesn’t play as much this week or the other quarterbacks, right? We’ll be able to assess the quarterback that started and how he played and when the other quarterbacks came in and then the opposite will be next week against Buffalo.”
Watson showed a steady veteran presence in his start against the Chicago Bears, but turned in a miserable performance against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, finishing with 35 yards passing and an interception after going just 5-for-12 through the air.
To make matters worse, after sitting through a thunderstorm delay, the Browns fans attending the game still had enough energy to boo Watson relentlessly. Things got so bad that Front Office Sports’ Ben Axelrod questioned why the fan perception of Watson wasn’t a bigger story.
“Deshaun Watson is getting booed after nearly every play in Cleveland. He’s probably going to be named the starter in a few days. Other than the Luka trade, I’ve never seen a franchise actively rebel against its own fanbase like this. Why isn’t this a bigger story?” Axelrod posted on X.
Sanders doesn’t “like or respect” the boos
As bad as things got for Watson on Saturday, his biggest competitor, Sanders, took the high road and denounced Saturday’s boos.

Regardless of what Sanders thinks of the fans booing Watson, their clear disdain for the veteran, together with his terrible showing on Saturday, may just lead to Sanders winning the job.
