Shelby's DeVito named Division IV Ohio Offensive Player of the Year

COLUMBUS — A total of 12 Richland County football players took home Division IV All-Ohio honors for the 2025 season.
The Shelby Whippets put seven players on the list headlined by senior quarterback Brayden DeVito, who was honored for his incredible season and amazing career with the 2025 Division IV Ohio Offensive Player of the Year award. He shared it with Indian Valley's Grady Kinsey. DeVito completed 196-of-281 passes for 3,200 yards and 41 touchdowns while running for 1,223 yards on 149 carries with 26 touchdowns. He also added three catches for 15 yards and recorded 33 tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions, two fumbler recoveries and two touchdowns for a grand total of 69 total touchdowns in 2025.
Shelby coach Rob Mahaney was named the Division IV Ohio Coach of the Year. He led the Whippets to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons for the first time since 1967-68, a third straight Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championship, a second regional title and the first state championship game appearance in program history. He recorded his 100th career victory this season and is the third-winningest coach in Shelby football history.
Junior wide receiver Brady Bowman was named first team All-Ohio as a wide receiver. He caught 85 passes for 1,659 yards and 24 touchdowns on offense and had 51 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.
Senior Carter Kessler was named first team All-Ohio as a defensive end. He finished the year with 71 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. On offense, he caught 14 passes for 262 yards and four touchdowns and will be heading to West Virginia to continue his football career.
Senior linebacker Sam Gwirtz earned first team honors at linebacker after leading the team with 154 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, four sacks, an interception, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and a defensive TD.
Junior Michael Shepherd took second team honors as a tight end/wide receiver. He caught 31 passes for 449 yards and eight touchdowns while also standing out on defense with 61 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a defensive score.
Senior Quinton Albert was a second team selection as an offensive lineman. He was joined on the All-Ohio offensive line list with Bryce Booker, who earned honorable mention. Those two paved the way for the Whippets to run for 2,609 yards and throw for 3,312 more on offense.
Junior Everett Harris took honorable mention as a kicker. He made 59-of-72 extra-point attempts and made one 24-yard field goal to give him 62 points for the season.
Clear Fork puts five on All-Ohio list
The Clear Fork Colts saw Nash Evan take second team All-Ohio honors as a punter after he drilled 29 punts with a 40-yard-per-kick average. He also made 24-of-29 extra-point attempts and was 4-for-4 on field goals with a long of 29. Evans also returned a kickoff for a TD, caught 17 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns, had 89 rushing yards and recorded 29 tackles with an interception on defense.
Evan Hamilton earned second team honors as an offensive lineman who helped pave the way for the Colts to throw for 1,152 and run for 2,145 yards.
Ben Campbell earned honorable mention honors as a defensive lineman after he recorded 39 tackles, three tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and forced a fumble. He also threw a touchdown pass, ran for 377 yards and seven scores and caught a TD pass.
Alex Schlosser earned honorable mention honors at linebacker after leading the team with 78 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception and a defensive TD. He also ran for 163 yards and three TDs at running back.
Devyn Oswalt earned honorable mention honors at defensive back after quite an all-around season. He returned a punt for a touchdown, ran for 249 yards and four scores, recorded 272 receiving yards with four TDs and added 62 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, an interception, four fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and added a defensive TD.
