Following a 28-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in Saturday’s SEC Championship Game, the Alabama Crimson Tide‘s College Football Playoff (CFP) hopes now rest solely in the hands of the selection committee.
Entering the SEC title game with a 10-2 overall record (7-1 SEC), Alabama had what was simply a rough showing in Atlanta, falling to Georgia in a game where the Crimson Tide posted only 209 yards of total offense.
Because of this, many across college football have since shared their opinions as to if the Crimson Tide should make the CFP field, in particular surrounding if Alabama, who entered Saturday sitting at No. 9 in the committee rankings, should be penalized for losing the SEC Championship Game.
A question that will dominate the talk surrounding the sport leading up to the selection show Sunday, will Alabama make the CFP following a loss in the SEC Championship Game to Georgia?
Let’s take a look at what some on social media were saying Saturday night following the game.
There is no way the CFP committee can justify putting Alabama in the Playoff with 3 loses and 1 coming against a 5-7 Florida State team.

This is the cleanest thing that could happen.
1. Alabama and BYU out — consistency with conference title game losers
2. Miami and Notre Dame both get in, avoiding the biggest debate of the entire CFP.
3. No injustices. Feels right.

On No. 9 Alabama losing by two TDs vs. Georgia right now: Former CFP chair Mack Rhoades had this to say in November about conference championships:
“Obviously, you win it, that’s a plus. If you lose it, theoretically, it’s not supposed to hurt you.
“Could it hurt you? If it was…

I cannot stress this enough: There is 0 chance Alabama misses the CFP. It would be a disastrous precedent to set for the committee and they won’t do it.

Here is my official prediction on the final CFP at large spots:
9. Notre Dame
10. Alabama
11. Miami– Committee will punish Alabama for a bad performance and push them to 10. Yurachek mentioned these 2 teams were “very close” last Tuesday night, and a bad performance from the…

They aren’t putting 4 SEC teams in and NOT the #1 seed that played for the conference title. It defies the purpose of the game.
Alabama will be in. https://t.co/YOA3fwG3JA

If Alabama gets left out of the 12 team playoff after playing in the SEC title game and three teams that didn’t play in the SEC title game get in, the SEC title game is over. No one will want to ever play in it again.

If people want schools to take conference championships seriously, or even have them at all, then Alabama should be in. https://t.co/39ZmlOFUui

The argument for Alabama:
🐘 Beat Georgia in Week 4
🐘 Beat Vandy, Tennessee, Missouri
