Should Florida Gators be Put on "Fraud Alert' Before Ole Miss Game?

Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall isn't buying what Vegas is selling, wanting to know what made oddsmakers favor No. 21 Florida over No. 4 Ole Miss for Saturday's SEC contest in Gainesville.

It's a fair question. The Rebels are coming off of one of the more impressive wins of the college football season, beating then-No. 7 LSU on Saturday night. 

The Gators played pee wee football in its first two contests against FAU and Campbell, but earned a significant victory on the road against Auburn in Week 3 despite committing 16 penalties.

Can Florida remain in the College Football Playoff conversation or will they be found out to be frauds in the coming weeks?

Jordan Mendoza of USA Today believes the Gators should be off the fraud list, noting that the offense is starting to become dangerous.

"He may not be your ordinary coach, but believe in what Sumrall has going," Mendoza wrote. "Florida’s offense is dangerous, starting with Jaden Baugh who is second in the country in rushing (458). 

"A strong run game compliments a growing Aaron Philo, and you have a team that can easily play spoiler to some SEC heavyweights. The Swamp home field advantage is going to be even greater with these vibes."

As impressive as the offense has been, there are critical issues with the defense. Before we know if Florida is a fraud, we have to see the results of the Gators defense when they go against Trinidad Chambliss on Saturday.

Chambliss might be the best quarterback in the country right now.

Against Auburn, Florida allowed quarterback Byrum Brown to throw for 271 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He added another 65 yards and a score via the ground. 

Chambliss can certainly do more damage against Florida this weekend.

With that being said, Florida should be able to compete with No. 19 Missouri on Oct. 3. South Carolina feels like an easy win at this point. It's very possible that Florida could get to eight or nine wins even with a loss to Ole Miss, given the way Oklahoma has started the season.
