Six Missouri football players make Coaches’ All-SEC team, 4 on first team

Four Missouri football players have been named first-team All-SEC selections by the league’s coaches, and six total Tigers received an all-conference nod.

The Southeastern Conference released its league honors, as voted on by the 16 SEC head coaches, on Tuesday afternoon.

Mizzou running back Ahmad Hardy, right tackle Keagan Trost, defensive end Zion Young and middle linebacker Josiah Trotter all were first-team All-SEC selections. Defensive end Damon Wilson II and left tackle Cayden Green received second-team honors.

Hardy is a finalist for the Doak Walker Award and leads the SEC, by nearly 300 total yards, in rushing. He rushed for 1,560 yards and 16 touchdowns in the regular season and is now just 68 yards away from breaking the Tigers’ single-season rushing record. Hardy is a sophomore and is eligible to return to Columbia next season.

Trost transferred to the Tigers from Wake Forest for his final year of eligibility and is currently the nation’s highest-graded run blocker on Pro Football Focus. He allowed nine pressures to get to Mizzou’s QBs on a team-high 834 snaps.

Young and Wilson have partnered to form one of the top edge rushing duos in the league this season. Wilson generated 49 quarterback pressures with eight sacks, and Young had 48 pressures and eight sacks. Young is out of eligibility and has received some first-round NFL buzz, while Wilson is a junior and will need to decide whether he wants to enter the draft process early or return to college.

Green moved from left guard, where he was a preseason All-American, to left tackle shortly before the season started and mostly acclimated to the more high-profile role well. The Lee’s Summit native was one of PFF’s top-20-graded starting pass blockers this season, which ranked No. 4 among offensive tackles. He also has the option to declare early for the draft.

Trotter was Mizzou’s leading tackler and generated the second-most tackles for loss on the team behind Young in a stellar first season in Columbia after transferring from West Virginia. The Philadelphia native also may opt to head to the NFL early, as a redshirt sophomore.

The SEC will announce individual award winners Wednesday and its All-Freshman team Thursday.
