Skyler Bell named First Team AP All-American

UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell was named to the Associated Press All-American First Team on Monday after his record-breaking season with the Huskies. He is the first-ever UConn football player to achieve this honor.

Bell was also a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top receiver, though it was awarded to USC’s Makai Lemon on Friday, and was also named to the Walter Camp All-American second team.

Bell caught 101 balls for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, setting Husky program records for receptions and TDs. He ranks second in the NCAA in receptions, yards, TDs, catches per game, and yards per game, and led the country with seven 100-yard games this season.

The former Wisconsin transfer has also been invited to this year’s Panini Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl. He is the 19th Husky ever to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl and the first UConn skill player to do it since Dan Orlovsky in 2005.

Bell is reportedly opting out as UConn gets ready for the Fenway Bowl against Army on Dec. 27th. As he begins his preparation for senior bowls, pro day, and the NFL Draft, the Bronx native is projected by most to be a mid-to-late round selection at this early stage of the process.
