Notes & Thoughts:
- The offense had more snaps than the defense in this game, which did not surprise me after rewatching the defense give up what felt like a million gigantic plays through the air.
- Cooper Cousins played for the first time in conference play after suffering an injury earlier in the season. Vega Ioane played every snap after missing the Iowa game.
- The game flow was a direct reflection of Penn State’s total lack of depth on both sides of the ball. Ohio State was able to fully impose its will in the second half when the starters, particularly on defense, got tired.
- Ohio State has a great defense, but I don’t know what else to say about the receivers at this point. The three main starters played over 100 snaps combined and only totaled 55 receiving yards.
- The regression at tight end this season needs to be looked at. Nobody expected to replicate Tyler Warren’s numbers, but Penn State had consistent tight end play for over a decade. Reynolds and Rappleyea did not make a single catch in their 61 combined snaps, and Dinkins had just two in the game.
