Texas A&M finished the 2025 regular season 11-1 and 7-1 in SEC play, but after losing to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) 27-17 last Friday night, the Aggies dropped four spots in the College Football Rankings to No. 7, which did not change during Sunday’s final rankings, staying at 7. They will now host No. 10 Miami at Kyle Field in less than two weeks.
Was this a fair shake for the Maroon & White? No, especially comparing the Aggies’ strength of schedule and strength of record rankings against Ole Miss, as the Rebels will host No. 11 Tulane, which is the much easier path. Still, Notre Dame’s head-to-head loss at Miami, with both teams finishing with identical 10-2 records, was a tough decision, but it does make sense.
Texas A&M’s CFP path is the toughest in the bracket, knowing that a potential win against Miami would lead to a matchup with No. 2 Ohio State, and possibly No. 3 Georgia, to make it to the National Championship round. However, this is the nature of the game, and it’s clear the Selection Committee based the rankings on timely wins and losses, including A&M’s road loss to Texas just a week ago.
Texas A&M has made the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history and will likely host a night game in Kyle Field. Spot the ball, and get to work. Here are the best reactions to Texas A&M’s first-round matchup vs. Miami.
None of this mattered during the final rankings reveal
Texas A&M enters the final CFP rankings with the third-best strength of record and 16th-best strength of schedule, which both rank second behind SEC champion Georgia among one-loss P4 teams. Texas Tech has the worst SOR (7th) and SOS (53rd) among that group, yet the Red Raiders…

It could be worse!
And there you have it.
Texas A&M.
Miami.
College Football Playoff.
Kyle Field.
Let’s do this, 12th Man 👍🏼

YES they are, Kannon. Time to get to work!
YOUR No. 7 Aggies will face…No. 10 Miami at home in the first round of the college football playoffs 👍

It truly is the toughest path in the CFP
Aggies got probably the toughest path imaginable.
Miami instead of Tulane in Rd 1, Ohio State in Rd 2 and likely traveling to Miami instead of NoLa or Dallas.
Would make for a hell of run though, wouldn’t it?
— Billy Liucci (@billyliucci) December 7, 2025
I mean, that’s pretty much all I can agree with
That week 1 game on Sunday between ND and Miami… was a playoff game.
Regular season games are not diminished with the expanded playoff!

The debate will continue, especially if the Aggies take care of business
We can all debate over where A&M should be ranked within the Playoff field but I’ll say this…feels pretty dang good to finally be IN the Field of 12. Whoever we play…bring it on. Let’s roll! ‼️‼️🔥🔥

Here’s what happened the last time Texas A&M hosted Miami (FL)

Again, this was one of the only correct decisions
Pulling Miami over Notre Dame is a win not just for Texas A&M, but the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
The correct move and excited to host the Hurricanes in College Station once again.

Here are all the first-round hosting sites
Teams hosting games (their quarterfinal pairing)

The culture change is certainly one of the primary reasons Texas A&M made the CFP
In just year 2 of the Mike Elko era, Texas A&M is a playoff team and hosting a home playoff game
Elko has completely changed the culture of Texas A&M in just two short seasons

It’s a problem
Timing of losses is a MASSIVE issue in the sport right now. https://t.co/pMnA51FL3t

I doubt that will happen
I’m mildly shocked the committee left out a 10-2 Notre Dame. Not because Miami isn’t more deserving, but I just never thought they’d omit Notre Dame. I guess Notre Dame will have to join a conference.

The opinions are varied, but, hey! More football in Kyle Field!
The committee is actively ruining college football. With that being said, I will be in Kyle field watching my team host Miami so let’s freaking go.

Welp, It’s an afternoon game
No. 7 Texas A&M will host No. 10 Miami at 11:00 a.m. CT on December 20th at Kyle Field.
The winner will face No. 2 Ohio State at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas on December 31st.

Texas A&M needs its star running back
A&M definitely needs LeVeon Moss healthy for Miami
