On Thursday afternoon, the Alabama Crimson Tide traveled to Pasadena for a showdown with the Indiana Hoosiers in the CFP quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl.
A game that saw the winner advance to the CFP semifinal at the Peach Bowl, it was simply all Indiana in the matchup as well, as the Hoosiers claimed a lead in the first half, and never looked back on their way to a 38-3 win against the Crimson Tide.
In what was a dominant showing, the Crimson Tide were also outgained in total yardage, 407-193, and struggled on third downs, both offensively and defensively. Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza also threw for three touchdowns against the Alabama defense, while Austin Mack ended up as the Crimson Tide’s top passer after an injury to starter Ty Simpson.
Following is a look at some reactions on social media to Alabama’s Rose Bowl defeat against Indiana on New Year’s Day.

Alabama blitzed Fernando Mendoza a season-high 12 times.
He was 8-8 for 161 yards and 3 TD against 5 or more pass rushers, the first QB with 3 pass TD vs the Alabama blitz since Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel in 2013 👏 pic.twitter.com/PK5ALouwUE

Building and solidifying a better 1st team OL squad has got to be the priority in the offseason. So much inconsistency at VARIOUS spots there this season. Can’t even begin to discuss other offensive issues before addressing that

Ty Simpson was noncommittal about future plans, but when asked about the mindset this end to season puts him in, he said “I’m ready to get back to work”

Year 2 of Coach DeBoer. Some really high high’s and some really low low’s.
But in no world is a season where you make the SEC championship game, win a playoff game, and play in the Rose Bowl not considered a successful season.
Future’s bright and I’m excited for it #RollTide

Germie Bernard: Thank you for the two seasons you spent in a Crimson uniform.
You epitomized the Bama standard. Never complained. Showed up and did your job every time with a smile on your face.
You’re always welcome in Tuscaloosa. Go be great in the NFL, good sir. Respect. pic.twitter.com/171zNjDpIk

Some tough decisions to be made this offseason…
Year 1 – Bowl loss
Year 2 – SEC Champ Game, Playoff WinA foundation has been set, but now you gotta frame the house correctly.
Will be interesting to see what moves DeBoer makes pic.twitter.com/HQqeWQEDCj
