Clemson delivered its most lopsided win of the season Saturday, but the 37-0 victory over Charleston Southern still left plenty for fans to discuss.
The Tigers improved to 4-2 with a dominant defensive performance, holding the Buccaneers to 76 total yards and recording their first shutout since beating South Carolina in 2021. Clemson finished with four sacks and a season-high 13 tackles for loss, consistently shutting down any chance for Charleston Southern to build momentum.
Nolan Hauser supplied another highlight, drilling a 59-yard field goal before halftime. The kick ranks second in Clemson history, trailing only Spencer Benton’s 61-yarder against Ball State in 2012.
Chris Johnson Jr. scored twice on the ground, Gideon Davidson added a rushing touchdown and Kylon Griffin reached the end zone on a fumbled kickoff return.
Still, a 34-0 halftime lead gave way to a quiet second half offensively. Clemson scored just three points after the break, while its passing game struggled to generate explosive plays. Tait Reynolds finished with 127 passing yards, and backup Trent Pearman threw two interceptions.
That combination of defensive dominance, a memorable special teams moment and lingering offensive concerns provided several talking points as Clemson prepares to host Virginia Tech.
How did fans and observers assess the Tigers’ performance? Here’s a look at some of the social media reactions following Saturday’s victory over Charleston Southern at home.
Division I football was split in 1978. Clemson remains the only school in the state unbeaten against FCS competition since then.

Clemson secures the shutout and allowed just 76 total yards. Has to be one of the better statistical defensive performances in Clemson history.
Special teams were elite today. Hauser is an absolute weapon and that will pay dividends at some point down the stretch.

Not the glowing performance Clemson fans wanted to see. Special teams were great. Defense was solid. The offense?!? That's another story, especially the passing game.

This is the worst offense under Dabo Swinney’s tenure. Not an opinion. It’s a fact.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney: "I think we made a big improvement today on doing the routine things better, but we still need to do it better." Says there were plays vs. Charleston Southern that didn't hurt them today that would've hurt them "if the margin was smaller"
