A star player for the Nebraska Cornhuskersmade a massive announcement Friday. Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson declared for the 2026 NFL draft.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota, native made the announcement on social media in a long post, thanking coaches, teammates, fans, family and friends for his run thus far. He made the declaration one day after being named the Big Ten Running Back of the Year,

Johnson earned the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year award and first-team all-Big Ten following a remarkable junior season with the Huskers. In 12 games, he tallied 1,451 rushing yards, which was third in the nation, and became the first Nebraska running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since 2018. He also hauled in 46 catches for 370 yards, bringing his all-purpose yards total to 1,821, which ranks second in the nation for running backs.

Johnson became the driving force for Nebraska’s offense, accounting for a nation-leading 40.7% of the team’s total yards. He earned eight separate hundred-yard games and capped off the regular season with a career-high 217 rushing yards against Iowa, the most surrendered by the Hawkeyes this year.

The Minnesota native also became the first running back in school history to rush and receive for 100 yards in a single game. In the Huskers’ 28-21 win over UCLA, Johnson rushed for 129 yards and hauled in 103 receiving yards. He also set a school record by becoming the first Nebraska running back to catch two touchdown passes in a single game.

Johnson finishes his career at Nebraska following a three-year run. After being redshirted in 2022, Johnson played in every single game under head coach Matt Rhule and rushed for 2,460 yards and 15 touchdowns across 37 games.
