Three-star liebacker recruit Tre Geathers lll has committed to Florida Gators over the Georgia Bulldogs, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. Geathers is the son of Georgia defensive end Robert Geathers ll, but the recruit ultimately decided that Florida was the best fit despite having an opportunity to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Geathers is a talented linebacker that could have emerged as a regular contributor on the Dawgs’ defense next year. The three-star chose Florida over Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Geathers is an excellent athlete, but the 6-foot-2 and 212 pound linebacker does not play for the Bulldogs in 2027 nonetheless.

Geathers’ father played a critical role on Georgia’s defensive line from 2001-03. The former Bulldog played alongside legendary lineman David Pollack, and they were considered to be one of the top defensive end duos in all of college football at the time. Geathers will have star potential throughout his time at Florida as well, as the linebacker is ranked as the No. 56 overall safety and the No. 582 player from the class of 2027. He is the No. 19 recruit out of North Carolina, and Geathers will now look to shine at Florida next season despite drawing serious interest from UGA.

Geathers would have been the third linebacker from the 2027 class to commit to Georgia if he ultimately chose the Bulldogs over Florida. Four-star LB Joakim Gouda recently announced his commitment to Georgia, while three-star LB Temorris Campbell Jr. has committed to UGA as well.
