Curt Cignetti's criticisms of the situation new Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover left at TCU were more than fair. At least, according to Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes.
The Hoosiers' coach addressed the turnover problems that marred otherwise strong play from Hoover in Fort Worth during spring practice, joking that Hoover met his two new "best friends" — a strong defense and run game — when he arrived in Bloomington.
At Big 12 media days on Wednesday, Dykes said that Cignetti's comments were mostly fair and that he is working to improve in both those areas in 2026.
“There’s a lot of truth to what he said,” Dykes said, per The Athletic's David Ubben. "(Improving at defense and running the ball is) what I’m trying to do. That’s why we have a new offensive coordinator. Because we want to run the football and we want to put our quarterback in a less bad situation.”
Hoover threw for nearly 10,000 yards and 71 touchdowns in his four years at TCU, but in 31 starts, he threw 33 interceptions. Now, he replaces a Heisman-winning quarterback, and Cignetti is hoping a program that's coming off a national championship can help smooth out those mistakes.
The Horned Frogs, meanwhile, turn to an FCS transfer this fall in graduate student Jaden Craig, who was previously a star in the Ivy League at Harvard.
