The Oklahoma Sooners are continuing to do their due diligence in their search for their quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class. Head coach Brent Venables, general manager Jim Nagy, offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, and quarterbacks coach John Kuceyeski are focused on building a strong present and future under center in Norman.
OU’s latest QB offer went out to three-star passer Trey Wright, who hails from Frisco Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas. Wright is a dual-threat quarterback who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 180 pounds. He has two years of high school remaining for the Rangers, and he also holds offers from Oregon and Michigan, among others.

The offer to Wright is now OU’s fifth quarterback offer to go out in the 2028 class. The Sooners have also offered Graham Simpson, Trey Tagliaferri, Brady Quinn, and Gavin Strang in this cycle. Additionally, Oklahoma has shown some interest in Nash Henry, a local product from Norman North High School, but has not offered him yet. OU has also already offered QB Logan Lucero out of the 2029 class, and has yet to send out a QB offer in the 2030 class.
With a quarterback room that currently consists of redshirt-senior starter John Mateer, freshman heir-apparent Bowe Bentley, and backups in redshirt-sophomore Whitt Newbauer and redshirt-freshman Jett Niu, the Sooners also have a commitment from Jamison Roberts to be their QB in the 2027 recruiting class. Oklahoma is continuing to find the next signal-caller in the pipeline behind Mateer, Bentley, and Roberts, and there’s still a long way to go until the Sooners will be able to sign their class of ’28 passer.
