Sooners predicted to land 4-Star Texas legacy in 2028 recruiting class

The Oklahoma Sooners have built one of the best defenses in college football under the leadership of Brent Venables. The Sooners ranked in the top 10 in several major categories, including ranking No. 1 in team tackles for loss and sacks last season.

A big reason for the Sooners' success was the elite defensive line that Venables, Miguel Chavis and Todd Bates have put together. But the Sooners want to make sure that wasn't a flash in the pan but the new standard in Norman. To do that, they have to continue to put together elite recruiting classes.

Oklahoma has put together one of the best classes in the country for 2027, but has already started the work on the 2028 class. One guy the staff has their eye on is Denton, Tex. native Logan Lokey. He's a four-star top 300 prospect in the country. The Sooners have a 94.4% chance to land the talented defender, according to Rivals Prediction Machine. Rivals' Sam Spiegelman has put a prediction in for Lokey, who, interestingly enough, is a Texas Longhorn legacy.

"Another defensive lineman that I like where they're sitting on is Logan Lokey," Spiegelman said. "He's actually a Texas legacy… his dad was on the national championship team in 2005. But (Texas) A&M and SMU are probably Oklahoma's biggest threat. I like where the Sooners are with Logan Lokey and recently added a prediction for that to eventually take place."

Landing Lokey would be another major recruiting win for Venables and his staff, particularly given his ties to Texas. The Longhorns haven't gotten involved yet, but Texas A&M and SMU could make a strong push for the talented defensive lineman.

For Oklahoma, though, this recruitment is about more than adding another highly rated prospect. The Sooners are trying to establish a defensive identity that can hold up year after year in the SEC, and that starts with dominating the line of scrimmage.

If Oklahoma can maintain its current position with Lokey and eventually get him to Norman, it would give the Sooners another talented piece to build around up front. More importantly, it would show that Venables and his staff aren't done building what they believe can become one of the SEC's premier defensive lines.
