COLUMBIA — South Carolina football made major changes to its staff in December.
Although it appears that coach Shane Beamer has all his assistants and coordinators set for the 2026 season, more moves could pop up.
The Gamecocks secured their most impactful three players for the 2026 season in quarterback LaNorris Sellers, star wide receiver Nyck Harbor and star edge rusher Dylan Stewart. Those three, along with Beamer went 4-8 this year.
Here are the moves Beamer has made so far for his 2026 staff.
Who did Shane Beamer hire for South Carolina’s staff in 2026?
Kendal Briles, offensive coordinator
The most important hire was offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, who is replacing Mike Shula.
Shula was promoted last December from an analyst position but was fired Nov. 2 after dismal numbers from the offense.
Briles spent the past three seasons as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at TCU.
Randy Clements, offensive line coach
Briles brought Randy Clements with him from TCU, with Beamer hiring him as offensive line coach. Clements, who noted in his opening press conference that everyone calls him “Clem,” had one-year stint as an assistant offensive line coach at TCU in 2025.
Beamer fired Lonnie Teasley on Oct. 12, after the 20-10 loss to LSU. Teasley was hired to Nebraska’s staff on Dec. 19.
Stan Drayton, running backs coach
Shortly before hiring his three new offensive coaches, Beamer fired running backs coach Marquel Blackwell on Dec. 4, the day after early signing day.
Blackwell spent two seasons in the position and didn’t sign a high school running back in either recruiting cycle.
Beamer hired Stan Drayton out of Penn State, reuniting with the coach 21 years after the two coached at Mississippi State together.
Drayton coached Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl win over Clemson on Dec. 27, where his unit had 135 rushing yards in the game.
Deion Barnes, defensive ends/OLB coach
Beamer hired Deion Barnes from Penn State as its new defensive ends/outside linebackers coach, which opened up after Sterling Lucas left to take a job at LSU under Lane Kiffin.
Barnes also coached in the bowl game, with his defensive front logging four sacks for a loss of 40 yards and four quarterback hurries.
Deion Barnes and Stan Drayton celebrate after beating Clemson in their final game coaching for Penn State. The two will join @CoachSBeamer and the #Gamecocks next year in Columbia.@abc_columbiapic.twitter.com/wzPxSZdjA0
