COLUMBIA — South Carolina football got its first transfer portal player for the 2026 cycle.
Jayden Gibson, a 6-foot-5 wide receiver, committed to the Gamecocks on Jan. 4, two days after the portal opened.
Gibson, who is transferring from Oklahoma, has two years of eligibility left. He played in 2022 and 2023, but missed the 2024 season with a patellar tendon injury, then suffered a setback that lasted into 2025, according to reports. He left the Sooners at midseason.
After minimal time on the field in 2022, he recorded 14 catches for 375 yards and scored five touchdowns, averaging 26.8 yards per catch in 2023.

Gibson, who is from Winter Garden, Florida, was a four-star player in the 2022 class who was recruited by South Carolina by then-wide receivers coach Justin Stepp. Mike Furrey has been Shane Beamer’s wide receivers coach since 2024.
The Gamecocks are returning their leading receiver, Nyck Harbor, but lost their second-best in Vandrevius Jacobs, who entered the portal. Harbor had 618 yards and six touchdowns, Jacobs had 548 and four scores.
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers is returning and is getting some more height in the receiver room: Harbor is 6-5, but Gibson is 5 inches taller than Jacobs.
According to his social media, Gibson was in Columbia on a visit on Jan. 3, presumably making up his mind not long after. South Carolina lost to Oklahoma 26-7 on Oct. 18 and will travel to Norman on Oct. 31, 2026.
