South Carolina transfer offensive lineman Josiah Thompson is withdrawing from portal, On3 has learned. He’s set to return to the Gamecocks in 2026.

Thompson played high school football at Dillon (Dillon, SC), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 36 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted algorithm that compiles all major recruiting media services.

Moreover, Thompson was rated as a three-star prospect in the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings. He was the No. 229 overall recruit, and the No. 20 overall offensive tackle available after entering their name into the portal before committing to return.

The 2025-26 college football transfer portal will last 15 days, spanning from Jan. 2 to Jan. 16, the NCAA decided. While players have just over two weeks  to enter the portal, they’re not under a deadline to commit when they enter. Traditionally, the cut-off for committing has been how late a school can enroll a player through admissions, so it varies throughout the sport.

Meanwhile, former Penn State freshman running back Jabree Coleman committed to transfer to South Carolina out of the NCAA Transfer Portalaccording to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. It reunites Coleman with new Gamecocks RBs coach Stan Drayton, who served as his position coach last season in Happy Valley.

Coleman will have all four years of collegiate elibility remaining after redshirting during his true freshman season in 2025. The 6-foot, 212-pound Coleman signed with Penn State as a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle out of Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia, Pa.), where he was the No. 6-ranked player out of Pennsylvania, the No. 24 running back in the class and No. 341 player overall, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting media companies.

He’ll join a rebuilt Gamecocks roster that returns its three biggest stars from last season in QB LaNorris Sellers, WR Nyck Harbor and EDGE Dylan Stewart ahead of a bounceback 2026 campaign. South Carolina will be hungry for a bounce-back season after posting a 5-7 record in 2025.

It was a disappointing 2025 campaign for the Gamecocks, who began the season ranked No. 13 in the country. Nonetheless, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer is confident his team will have an excellent season next year.
