Southern California native Brady Edmunds shuts down his recruitment

Bob Chesney and the UCLA Bruins will continue their search for the quarterback of the future in Westwood, with 2027 four-star recruit Brady Edmunds shutting down his recruitment process on Thursday.

Edmunds has been committed to Ohio State since December of 2024 but after a visit with new UCLA offensive coordinator, Dean Kennedy, and a visit to campus last month. The Bruins’ efforts were ultimately for not, with Edmonds opting to fulfill his commitment to the Buckeyes.

UCLA had the geographical edge on Ohio State, Edmonds is a Huntington Beach, CA native who will now be headed to the midwest to begin his college football career. 247 Sports has the 6’5” Edmonds ranked as the No. 17 quarterback in the 2027 class.

While the Bruins didn’t land Edmonds this time around, the competition for playing time in Columbus is quite high, meaning there’s a chance Edmonds could have a wandering eye at where he might get a chance to start. A return home to Southern California for a quarterback wouldn’t be something we had never seen before, with Nico Iamaleava following a similar route last year.

UCLA has shown interest in other young quarterback recruits, having already offered Class of 2028 QB Titus Huard and Class of 2030 QB Brooks Herman. 

There’s no doubt that Iamaleava will be UCLA’s starter in 2026 but depending on how the season goes, he could either head to the NFL Draft, or if things go poorly, the Bruins could be looking for a new starter for 2027. There’s no clear successor at quarterback, and that continues to be the case with Edmonds closing down his recruitment.
