Southern Miss football hired Isaac Reed as its new running backs coach on Feb. 27.

He replaces Telly Lockette, who followed coach Charles Huff to Memphis.

The Golden Eagles promoted offensive coordinator Blake Anderson to head coach after Huff left.

Reed spent the last three seasons as Eastern Michigan’s running backs coach. Eastern Michigan’s Dontae McMillan was fourth in the MAC in rushing in 2025 with 1,014 yards and four touchdowns.

Before Eastern Michigan, Reed was a quality control assistant at Rutgers in 2022. He was also the special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Southeast Missouri State in 2021, and held that some position at Buffalo in 2020.

Reed played running back at Division III Baldwin Wallace from 2012-15.

The Golden Eagles’ top two running backs, Jeffery Pittman and Matt Jones, are gone, leaving Robert Briggs as the best returner. Southern Miss added four running backs for 2026: Louisville transfer Jamarice Wilder, UMass transfer Brandon Hood and junior college signees Jaylen Foster and Steven Robinson.

Kyle Cefalo is Southern Miss’ new offensive coordinator.
