SportsCenter heading to Atlanta for Colorado-Georgia Tech matchup

When Deion Sanders took over Colorado ahead of the 2023 season, the Buffaloes became one of college football's most publicized teams. The popularity peaked with a 9-4 2024 season and a Heisman-winning season by Travis Hunter, but has since tailed off. But the popularity is still high enough to draw national attention, as it did in Week 1 against Georgia Tech.

ESPN's SportsCenter is heading to Atlanta ahead of kickoff between the Buffaloes and the Yellow Jackets. The show's "On Campus" series will air from 5-5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 3, before the 8 p.m. kickoff. Matt Barrie will host the show from the top level of Peters Parking Deck on the north end of Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Matt Barrie will also handle play-by-play duties for ESPN during Thursday's season opener.

While the news does not affect most Colorado fans who will be watching from home, it is worth noting that SportsCenter heading to Atlanta likely would not happen if it were not for the presence of Deion Sanders and CU.

Colorado is no stranger to the spotlight, with the majority of Colorado's games shown on national television since Sanders took over. ESPN has also frequently followed the Buffs, bringing its flagship pregame show, "College GameDay," to Boulder for Colorado's game against Colorado State in 2023. A winning season will no doubt have the producers of "College GameDay" thinking of a way to get back to Boulder.

For Buff fans thinking about when that could be, look at the Oct. 3 matchup against Texas Tech as the likeliest date, especially if the Buffs get off to a hot start. Oct. 17 against Utah and Nov. 13 against Houston are other possible options, but significantly less appealing than the matchup with the Red Raiders.
