Stanford has yet to finish above .500 in conference play since it moved over to the ACC a couple of years ago, but the Cardinal is hoping that an experienced starting quarterback can help break that streak.
The program announced Michigan transfer QB Davis Warren will start the team's first game on Aug. 29 against Hawai'i at home. Warren was in a competition with Dylan Rizk and Michael Mitchell Jr. during training camp.
"He's dedicated and committed to not just who he is as a player, but how he can affect others as a leader, as the quarterback," head coach Tavita Pritchard said to ESPN. "I'm really excited for him."

Warren spent the first three seasons of his college career with the Wolverines, throwing a combined seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions over 17 games with his old program. The majority of Warren's playing experience came in 2024, when he threw for 1,119 yards in nine contests.
He was out of action in 2025 after he tore his ACL in Michigan's bowl game that season and transferred to Stanford in January.
