Start time, TV details for Penn State football final 2025 regular season game at Rutgers

Penn State football may be playing for a winning-streak salve − and some kind of bowl game invitation − when it travels to Rutgers on Thanksgiving weekend.

The Nittany Lions‘ final regular-season game of this most disappointing fall will start at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 in SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Big Ten Network will televise, league officials announced Monday.

The Nittany Lions just broke an epic losing streak at Michigan State last Saturday, winning for the first time in two months − the first under interim head coach Terry Smith.

The Lions, who were once was ranked No. 2 nationally, must now defeat Nebraska Saturday on Senior Day and then Rutgers to finish 6-6 and earn a consolation postseason bid.

Rutgers, which is 5-5, needs a victory at No. 1 Ohio State this weekend or vs. PSU, to qualify for a bowl game, too.

Penn State has dominated the all-time series with Rutgers, leading 32-2. The Lions have won 17 straight meetings, never losing to the Scarlet Knights as Big Ten foes.

These current PSU players defeated Rutgers in Beaver Stadium in 2023 and in Piscataway in 2022, ignited by freshman Nick Singleton’s kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Lions hope to arrive at Rutgers with back-to-back wins for the first time since September. They broke through at Michigan State by dominating at the line of scrimmage − running for 240 yards on offense and registering five sacks and continuous quarterback pressures on defense.

“I’m super proud of our effort (at Michigan State),” PSU interim coach Terry Smith said Monday. “Not only did we win, but we played with an identity of Penn State football. It was complementary football at its best, and we are going to continue to build off of that.”
