Stephenville relied on a relentless defensive effort to defeat Kilgore 10-0 and claim the UIL Class 4A Division I state football championship on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2025, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The Yellow Jackets forced four turnovers to keep the Bulldogs’ offense scoreless for the first time this season. Stephenville also became the first team to score on Kilgore during the 2025 UIL playoffs.
In fact, Kilgore had only allowed 17 points all season before Stephenville’s championship victory.
It was also the first time the Bulldogs were shutout since the 2019 season.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first half as Kilgore turned the ball over twice in the opening quarter, including an interception by Hudson Butchee.
A missed field goal and a fumble inside the Bulldogs’ 30-yard line kept the game scoreless at halftime.
The Yellow Jackets’ breakthrough came midway through the third quarter when quarterback Trot Jordan found Adan Jergins for a 41-yard touchdown pass with 9:12 left in the quarter to give Stephenville a 7-0 lead.
Brighton DeVivo added some insurance for Stephenville with a 41-yard field goal with 9:23 remaining in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 10-0.
Willis Jackson shined on defense after intercepting a pass early in the second quarter and again late in the fourth quarter for the Yellow Jackets’ fourth takeaway of the game.
Jordan, who was named the game’s offensive most valuable player, finished with 164 yards of offense and one touchdown.
Hudson Butchee was named the game’s defensive MVP after finishing with 10 tackles, and interception and two takeaways.
Stephenville’s state championship is the program’s seventh overall and first since the 2021 season. The Yellow Jackets finish the season 16-0.
