Another local 337 high school football prospect has decommitted just days before the early National Signing Day period. St. Thomas More football’s four-star quarterback Cole Bergeron announced on his Instagram on Dec. 1 that he has decommitted from Virginia Tech.
The Hokies recently hired James Franklin as their head coach after Bergeron had initially announced his commitment to them on Aug. 7. Bergeron’s announcement marks the third-ranked prospect from the area to decommit ahead of the signing day period.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Bergeron was the backbone of the Cougars’ offense in his senior campaign leading them to the second round of the LHSAA Select Division I playoffs. His big frame and strong arm help his team pitch many comebacks as one of the top passers in the 2026 Class in Louisiana.
He ended the 2025 season throwing for 2,561 yards, 29 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, finishing the regular season as the second leading passer in the South Central Louisiana area. That stellar statline helped him work his way from a three-star to a four-star prospect this year.
Bergeron currently holds offers from Minnesota, San Diego State, Florida Atlantic, Colorado, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana and Indiana. The early National Signing Day period is from Dec. 3-5 and the regular signing day period for college football is set for Feb. 4, 2025.
