QB Ethan Grunkemeyer will be the starting QB for the Virginia Tech Hokies under new head coach James Franklin. While Grunkemeyer played for Franklin at PSU, he actually didn’t get his chance to start for the Nittany Lions until Franklin was fired after the loss to Northwestern. In that game Drew Allar, the starting QB, was injured.
Grunkemeyer, a four-star as both a prep and transfer, was thrust into duty against the Iowa Hawkeyes and started the remainder of the ‘25 season. Iowa, Ohio State and Indiana are a tough stretch of first games for a new starting QB under a new head coach.
Grunkemeyer finished the season having throw eight TD’s with four INT’s on 7.5 yards per attempt; with a 4-3 record as a starter. He looks to take his four game winning streak with him to Virginia Tech.
The game we’ll investigate is PSU’s 27-24 loss to the future National Champion Indiana Hoosiers. Grunkemeyer completed 71% of his passes with one touchdown and one interception on 7.1 yards per attempt.
