Miami Northwestern (Fla.) four-star safety Tedarius Hughes is leaving the Sunshine State next season.
After committing to Florida State last year, Hughes flipped to Syracuse, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.
The Orange hosted him on an official visit over the summer, but Florida State initially kept him on board. Hughes becomes the fifth blue-chip pledge for Brown’s 2026 class, and the fourth from Florida

With the Seminoles’ on-field struggles and doubt about head coach Mike Norvell’s future in Tallahassee, Hughes ultimately chose Fran Brown’s rising ACC program.
The flip marks a major win for Syracuse as Hughes was the Seminoles’ fourth-longest-tenured commit and one of a dozen blue-chip prospects in their class. This could become a trend for the Noles, especially if Norvell is fired at the end of the year.
Hughes, a 6-foot-3, 180-pounder, ranks No. 362 nationally and No. 32 among safeties, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He joins his five-star Northwestern Miami teammate Calvin Russell, who leads the Orange's future class.
Syracuse is currently 23rd nationally and fourth in the ACC. A major win at this point for Brown and his staff.
