Syracuse football 2026 position previews: tight ends

We wrap up our look at the Syracuse Orange offense with the tight end group. The Orange have to find a way to replace the versatility of Dan Villari, and it might take a combination of the group to do so.
Here are the players that are listed as tight end as we gear up for the season:
- Daunte Bacheyie
- Carter Bashir
- David Clement
- Noah Meyers
- Elijah Washington-Baker
Clement offers the most experience on the roster, but he’s been used mostly as a blocker. He’s got the size to be a red zone weapon, so will we see him running more routes this fall? I think Clement is likely to earn some starts but I wouldn’t expect him to see a big increase in targets.
Meyers comes in with the best receiving credentials. Last season for Western Kentucky he had 32 receptions for 357 yards. After his signing with the Orange, it was expected that he’d assume a big role in the passing offense, but reports out of camp indicate that his run blocking could put him behind Clement. I think with the injuries/turnover at wide receiver in camp, that Meyers will be a big part of the passing game and a favorite target for Angeli.
Washington-Baker might offer the best combination of blocking and receiving of the group. He came in with a reputation of being a big time athlete and as he’s gained more experience on offense he could push for more playing time.
Bacheyie is the player who most physically resembles Oronde Gadsden. He’s got height and speed and will probably be used more as a wide receiver, but he could become another red zone target for the offense. He’s a player to watch in 2027 as he gets more experience as a blocker.
Bashir is unlikely to push for a lot of playing time this season outside of special teams, but never count out Philly players.
