Syracuse Football Opponent Suffers Big Injury That Will Benefit Orange

You never want to benefit from someone else's injury or misfortune, but the reality is that it's unavoidable in a college football season.

And the news that came out on Thursday morning is set to benefit the Syracuse football team in 2026.

As noted by Pete Thamel of ESPN, Boston College tight end Kaelan Chudzinski, one of the top freshman tight ends in the country in 2025, is set to miss the season with an Achilles injury.

That means he will be unavailable when the Eagles play the Orange on Nov. 21 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

That's the second-to-last game of the season for Syracuse, and it could have a real impact on whether or not Syracuse gets bowl-eligible again this season. SU won 10 games in 2024, advancing to the Holiday Bowl, but went just 3-9 in 2025.

They figure to be much better this season.

Boston College beat Syracuse 34-12 in the season finale in 2025. Chudzinski had 41 yards receiving on one catch.

Head coach Fran Brown will speak to the media on Thursday (12:00 p.m. ET) as part of the ACC Football Kickoff special. At the event, he'll speak on the state of his program heading into 2026.

The three-day event wraps up on Friday, and we'll also hear from three Syracuse players as part of it, including quarterback Steve Angeli.

As noted by our own Tom Goslowski, this event also included the release of information with regards to a new football tiebreaker in the conference. Because teams in the league will be playing an uneven number of games, head-to-head will be the primary tiebreaker, but when head-to-head is unavailable, the league will have the ability to choose its ACC title game participants based on resume. For instance, a 6-3 team with a better resume could get a title game berth over a 6-2 team with less losses.

As for SU athletics as a whole

SU fans got a reality check on Tuesday when ESPN's Joe Lunardi released his first edition of 'bracketology' ahead of the 2026-27 men's basketball season.

Yes, we are still 3.5 months away from the first tip-off of the season, but it's always fun to see how your team fits into the national picture. That said, Lunardi doesn't think that Syracuse does. He doesn't have them in the top 84 teams right now.
