Syracuse football: what’s college football saying about the Orange heading into Week 5?

The Syracuse Orange football team returns to the field this weekend after getting some redemption against Bye Week U. Now it’s time to return to your regularly scheduled 2026 programming.

Syracuse heads to East Hartford for its second non-conference game of the year: the UConn Huskies. Here is how the rest of the college football world feels about the Orange coming off the bye:

ESPN

After the bye week, Syracuse is down five spots in ESPN’s SP+ rankings. It moved from No. 69 to No. 74. Syracuse is currently 97th on offense, 51st on defense, and 28th on special teams, according to SP+.

UConn is 85th overall, including 79th on offense, 93rd on defense, and 24th on special teams.

ESPN’s College Football Power Index put the Orange up from No. 64 to No. 63. It currently has the Orange with a win range between 4.3 and 7.8, and just over a 21% chance to reach six wins.

CBS Sports

Syracuse moved up slightly in CBS Sports’ rankings, now sitting at No. 72. UConn had quite the big jump. It moved more than 40 spots and went all the way to No. 50.

The Athletic

Syracuse stayed at No. 81 in The Athletic’s latest rankings. UConn dropped from No. 99 to No. 101.

College Football News

The Orange went up six spots — from No. 82 to No. 76 — in College Football News’ updated rankings. UConn is at No. 107.

Syracuse.com

Javon Edmonds of Syracuse.com gave the Orange a slight bump in his weekly ACC power rankings. Syracuse is now at 12th entering this week, compared to 13th entering the bye.
