Syracuserunning back Yasin Willis plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he revealed Tuesday on Twitter/X. He played two seasons for the Orange.
Willis played in 20 games over the last two seasons, setting career highs in 2025. This year, he had 558 yards, four touchdowns, 4.3 yards per carry, nine catches and 42 receiving yards. Overall, he has 688 yards, five touchdowns, 4.2 yards per carry, 17 catches and 68 receiving yards.
As a member of the Class of 2024, Willis was a three-star recruit out of Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph Regional, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the No. 12 overall prospect in the state, the No. 49 running back in the class and the No. 597 overall prospect in the class.

“I want to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude for the opportunities, growth, and experiences that have shaped my journey thus far,” Willis wrote in his statement, in part. “My time at Syracuse has been incredibly meaningful, and I am thankful for the lessons learned both on and off the field …
“After careful reflection and thoughtful conversations with my family, I have made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal. I will be entering the portal with two years of eligibility remaining.”
Willis originally committed to Pitt on July 29, 2023 before flipping to Syracuse. It’s fair to wonder if Pitt would be a landing spot for the New Jersey native, or local Big Ten schools like Rutgers or Penn State.
How is Fran Brown going to rebuild this team after going 3-9? He kept it short and simple when it came to the future of the football team.
“We’re just going to keep receipts and work extremely hard,” Brown said. Brown is now 13-12 in two seasons with Syracuse.
Freshman-standouts Antoine Deslauriers and Demetres Samuel mentioned they had faith in Brown to get things right. Perhaps the 2026 campaign will be different for Syracuse.
“I’m trying to build something here,” Deslauriers said. “I can strongly say that Syracuse is where I’ll play next year.”
