Taylor Swift is releasing new songs, bringing coincidental Purdue football losing streak to light

She's at it again. Taylor Swift is releasing news music, and it's right before a Purdue football game.

The odds were already stacked against the Boilermakers this week, and their losing streak against Power Four conference opponents faces another challenge, and odd coincidence. Purdue has lost nine straight games when it has followed the release of an album by Swift.

And, guess what? Swift announced Wednesday that the release of "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore" is releasing Friday, the day before Purdue hosts Notre Dame.

That game is a challenge in and of itself. The Fighting Irish (3-0) are favored by 28 points for the 2 p.m. Saturday game at Ross-Ade Stadium, per BetMGM. They also are national championship favorites plus-650 to win the national championship, the third-shortest odds. Notre Dame also is ranked third in the US LBM coaches poll.

The Boilermakers need to clean up a defense that is among the worst in the country. If so, they have an offense that is among the best with surefire playmakers in quarterback Ryan Browne and running back Fame Ijeboi.

Those two facets nearly synched up in a double-overtime loss to Wake Forest, with a six-point lead and allowing the Demon Deacons to convert on fourth-and-15 to set up the game-winning scores. The follow-up performance was a 52-38 loss at UCLA in the Big Ten opener, one marked by two turnovers leading to touchdowns and one taken off the board for an illegal procedure penalty.

Thus, the Boilermakers enter Saturday's game against Notre Dame having lost 22 straight games against Power Four opponents, and 19 in Big Ten play. But it's clear there is an offense that makes them competitive in those games.

The 36-year-old Swift announced her new album in a post on Instagram, citing her 2025 album "The Life of a Showgirl" being the biggest first week for an album in history. She said she recorded the four songs releasing Friday in Sweden with collaborators Max and Shellback during a trip that was "to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in."

The encore addition will include four new songs. "I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made," Swift said.
