TCU 7.5-point favorites against UNC for Week 0 matchup

College football will finally return this weekend, whether everyone is ready for it or not. UNC fans may not be quite as ready for it, but regardless, the Tar Heels are traveling to Dublin, Ireland to face off against TCU. It will be the first time we’ve seen the football team play internationally, and hopefully the result isn’t so bad that they will never play an overseas game again.

The opening odds for this game are here as well — per FanDuel Sportsbook, TCU is the 7.5-point favorites against the Tar Heels. Considering what happened last season, it’s honestly impressive that they aren’t a bigger favorite, but that could all change as the week progresses. The opening spread likely indicates one of two things: either there is a lot of faith in what offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino brings to the table, or the Horned Frogs have regressed quite a bit since last season.

While it’s hard to speak on what TCU has been up to, here is what we know about UNC. Former Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. got the nod for the starting job this weekend, which many around the program are calling the “safe” option. Surrounding Edwards are some familiar faces in Jordan Shipp, Demon June, and Benjamin Hall, but there will be a lot of names that UNC fans will learn over time.

There are also some familiar faces on defense mixed in with some new names, but the big storyline with that group is that defensive coordinator Steve Belichick is currently on medical leave, which means he will at minimum miss this weekend’s game. Does that mean we will see Bill Belichick calling plays on defense? Well, as expected, he’s not willing to say anything about what his plans are, so we’ll have to wait and see who ends up calling plays this Saturday.

All and all, we can only hope that this weekend will be a good game, but there’s no telling how things will go for a multitude of reasons. Outside of all the uncertainty surrounding UNC, there’s the whole playing overseas factor of it all, and there’s also figuring out what the Horned Frogs have in store for the Heels. Saturday’s game will be at 12 PM ET, and will be broadcasted on ESPN.
