TCU held No. 9 BYU to 216 yards and just 62 through the air, but the Horned Frogs still left Saturday with a 17-10 loss.

The game’s biggest swing came when BYU safety Faletau Satuala intercepted quarterback Jaden Craig and returned it 59 yards, setting up the Cougars’ first touchdown.

Satuala earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the play and his overall performance: four tackles, one for loss, and the momentum-changing interception.

The pick came in the second quarter, when the defenses had controlled a rainy, low-scoring game. BYU turned the short field into a touchdown and took a 7–0 lead.

TCU answered with a 76-yard drive, capped by Craig’s 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kari Ashley, to tie the game before halftime.

The Frogs’ defense kept giving the offense a chance. BYU managed only 101 yards in the first half and was held to its fewest passing yards against TCU since 2017.

But the margin stayed tight, and TCU couldn’t make its chances count.

The Frogs finished with 259 total yards, including 187 passing yards, but managed just 72 on the ground. Jeremy Payne led the rushing effort with 77 yards, while Ashley had a team-high 108 receiving yards.

TCU converted only four of 13 third downs and came away with a field goal after BYU’s late touchdown.

That’s the frustrating balance for the Horned Frogs: the defense limited a top-10 opponent to 17 points and disrupted its passing game, yet one turnover swung the field and helped produce the difference-making score.

TCU’s offense responded to that setback, but it couldn’t sustain enough drives or find a second touchdown to get over the line.

The 17-10 defeat dropped TCU to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play.

Now the bye week offers a chance to clean up the details before a road game at Baylor on Oct. 17. Satuala’s honor is a reminder of just how decisive one defensive play can be. For the Frogs, the challenge is making sure a strong defensive effort translates into points and a win next time.
