TCU's Sonny Dykes Earns Top-Five Spot in Big 12 Coach Rankings

Since becoming the head coach of the Horned Frogs in 2022, Sonny Dykes has quickly established himself as one of the most successful coaches in TCU football history, and his continued impact in Fort Worth is earning national recognition.
After transforming the Horned Frogs into one of the Big 12’s top programs, Dykes is once again being recognized among the conference’s premier coaches entering the 2026 season.

Dykes was ranked No. 5 in CBS Sports’ Big 12 coach rankings for the 2026 season, placing him among the best leaders in a conference filled with accomplished coaches.
The ranking reflects the consistency and success Dykes has brought to TCU since taking over the program, highlighted by his ability to build a contender and compete at the highest level of college football.
"It's easy to dismiss TCU's run to CFP National Championship runner-up in 2022 as a one-off, but Dykes has kept the Horned Frogs competitive since then," Cody Nagel writes.
"They haven't returned to those heights since, yet they haven't slipped to irrelevance either. Since Dykes took over, no current Big 12 program has more wins than TCU. It may not have matched the magic of 2022, but sustained success is a big reason Dykes remains among the conference's top coaches."
Since arriving at TCU, Dykes has helped usher in one of the most memorable stretches in program history. In his first season as head coach, he guided the Horned Frogs to an undefeated regular season, a Big 12 Championship appearance and a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
That historic run earned him multiple national Coach of the Year honors and changed the trajectory of the program.
One of the biggest strengths of Dykes’ tenure has been his ability to adapt to the changing landscape of college football.
With conference realignment, the transfer portal and evolving recruiting challenges reshaping the sport, Dykes has continued to find ways to keep TCU competitive while maintaining the program’s identity.
The No. 5 ranking from CBS Sports serves as another acknowledgment of the job Dykes has done in Fort Worth.

In the same ranking by CBS Sports last season, the TCU head coach came in at No. 9, and now he has climbed four spots after a win in the Alamo Bowl and a 9-4 regular season record
From reaching the College Football Playoff in his first season to consistently competing in the Big 12, Dykes has positioned TCU as a major player in college football and continues to build on the foundation he created in Fort Worth.
