Oklahoma State wide receiver Gavin Freeman will transfer to Tennessee football, adding a veteran target to an already talented receiving corps.
Freeman acknowledged his commitment to the Vols on his X account on Jan. 10.
Freeman played two seasons each at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. He took a redshirt in 2024, so he has one season of eligibility remaining. He has 81 receptions for 667 yards and seven total TDs as a receiver and kick/punt returner.
Freeman is coming off his best season. In 2025, he was Oklahoma State’s leading receiver with 53 catches for 481 yards and four TDs. He also served as the Cowboys’ punt returner and occasional kick returner.
The 5-foot-8, 185-pounder is from Oklahoma City, where he was a three-star recruit coming out of high school.
Freeman is the ninth player Tennessee has added from the portal. He joins Penn State safety Dejuan Lane, Penn State defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam, Penn State linebacker Amare Campbell, Penn State edge rusher Chaz Coleman, Kansas State safety Qua Moss, LSU offensive tackle Ory Williams, Auburn cornerback Kayin Lee and Louisville kicker Cooper Ranvier.
Where Gavin Freeman fits in Tennessee football receiving corps
Freeman joins a Tennessee receiving corps stocked with youth and talent. Braylon Staley, the 2025 SEC Freshman of the Year, had 68 receptions for 837 yards and six TDs in 2025. Mike Matthews had 53 catches for 813 yards and four TDs.
Travis Smith, Radarious Jackson and Joakim Dodson will compete for a spot in the rotation after their 2025 freshman season. Five-star recruit Tristen Keys, the No. 1 receiver in the 2026 class, enrolls in January. And four-star recruit Tyreek King will enroll in the summer.
Tennessee must replace Chris Brazzell, the SEC’s leading receiver, after he declared for the 2026 NFL Draft.
