Tennessee Fans Thrilled to See Key Starter Enter Transfer Portal

The Tennessee Volunteers had one of the more chaotic seasons across college football this year.
It started with the Nico Iamaleava drama, which resulted in their former five-star quarterback exiting stage leaving after the program failed to meet his demands. They then landed Joey Aguilar, and essentially accepted they’d have a down year before they opened the season with a 5-1 record.
The Vols finished the year 8-5, failing to beat a single FBS team with a winning record. However, that doesn’t mean they didn’t come close. During their Sept. 13 meeting with Georgia, they had a chance at what would have been a game-winning field goal, but kicker Max Gilbert pushed it wide right with three seconds left.
The Dawgs eventually won in overtime, and Gilbert became a scapegoat after his missed 43-yard attempt.
While he had a decent season, making 73.7% of his kicks, Tennessee fans rejoiced on Friday when it was revealed he was transferring.

“Shocked he actually hit the transfer portal this time instead of pushing it wide right. Good luck, Max,” wrote one fan.
“Another late Christmas gift for us Vols fans,” said another.
“I’m surprised he didn’t miss the portal window,” joked a third.
“Ol’ shaky leg when it matters most,” added a fourth.
“He missed the portal by 10 feet to the right,” chimed in another.
“Best for both sides,” said another.
Gilbert will likely get a shot elsewhere considering how hard it is to find a halfway decent kicker in college, but certainly a tough season for the young man.
This year’s portal window closes on Jan. 16.
