Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891. Throughout its the history, the Vols have played seven times and have a 6-1 record.

In 1998, Tennessee defeated Florida, 20-17, in overtime at Neyland Stadium. The contest was played before 107,653 fans.

The Vols won the game with Florida's Collins Cooper missing a field goal attempt in overtime after Jeff Hall converted a 41-yard field goal on Tennessee's possession in overtime.

Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin completed 7-of-20 passing attempts for 64 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also totaled 25 rushing yards on eight attempts.

Jamal Lewis totaled 82 rushing yards on 21 rushing attempts, while Shawn Bryson had one touchdown reception.

Peerless Price led the Vols in receiving yards (38). He recorded three receptions, including one touchdown against the Gators.
