Tennessee football names starting quarterback

Tennessee will kick off its 2026 football season on Sept. 5 versus Furman at Neyland Stadium (3:30 p.m. EDT, SEC Network+).

Early enrollee freshman Faizon Brandon was named Tennessee's starting signal-caller on Monday, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.

"Sources: Tennessee has named true freshman Faizon Brandon the starting quarterback, and he’ll debut for the Vols against Furman on Sept. 5," Thamel announced.

The Vols' starting quarterback competition was between Brandon and sophomore George MacIntyre.

Tennessee held its second and final scrimmage during fall training camp on Aug. 22. Heupel discussed the two signal-callers after the scrimmage at Neyland Stadium.

"Throughout the course of the last week since scrimmage one, I thought they did a really good job taking care of the football, handling decision making, controlling what we're doing offensively," Heupel said. "Today, there were some real positives, some things that they're going to learn from too, so excited to go back and watch the tape here with them."
