Tennessee football projected for in-state bowl game after Oklahoma loss

No. 22 Tennessee (6-3, 3-3 SEC) enters its second open date during the 2025 college football season in Week 11. The Vols will return to action on Nov. 15 versus New Mexico State.

Kickoff between the Vols and Aggies is slated for 4:15 p.m. EST at Neyland Stadium. SEC Network will televise the nonconference game.

Following Week 10 and Tennessee’s, 33-27, home loss to Oklahoma, Erick Smith of USA TODAY released updated bowl projections.

Tennessee is projected to play in the Music City Bowl versus Illinois. The Music City Bowl will be contested on Dec. 30 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST and will be televised by ESPN.

The Vols and Fighting Illini have never played in football. Tennessee last played in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30, 2021, losing, 48-45, in overtime to Purdue.

Tennessee has three games remaining in the 2025 regular season against New Mexico State, at Florida and versus Vanderbilt.
