Tennessee football running back entering transfer portal

No. 23 Tennessee (8-4, 4-4 SEC) is preparing to play Illinois (8-4, 5-4 Big Ten) in the Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl on Dec. 30.

Kickoff between the Vols and Fighting Illini is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. ESPN will televise the contest.

The NCAA transfer portal will be held Jan. 2 through Jan. 16, 2026. Tennessee sophomore running back Peyton Lewis will enter the transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

The 6-foot-1, 212-pound running back appeared in 23 games for the Vols from 2024-25. He totaled 629 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, while recording eight receptions for 56 yards.

Lewis also returned 13 kickoffs for 279 yards. He was named to the 2024 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Lewis went to Tennessee from Salem High School in Salem, Virginia. He committed to the Vols over Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Penn State.
