Tennessee State football released its 2026 season schedule Jan. 29, with the Tigers set to open against rival Jackson State before visiting FBS opponent Georgia.
In coach Reggie Barlow's second year, TSU, which went 2-10 last year, will kick off the season by renewing its rivalry with Jackson State in the John Merritt Classic at Nissan Stadium on Aug. 29. The series between the two HBCU's began in 1949, but they have not played since Jackson State ended its contract with the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis in 2022. TSU leads the series 30-23-2.
In the following game on Sept. 5, TSU will face its fourth SEC opponent ever with a visit to four-time national champion Georgia at Sanford Stadium. The Tigers are 0-4 against SEC opponents.
The Tigers will face another HBCU opponent on Sept. 19 when they play at Alabama A&M. In 2025, Alabama A&M defeated TSU 23-21 at Nissan Stadium before 10,208 fans, one of the largest crowds for the Tigers all season.
