Josh Heupel wasted no time going after Lane Kiffin at SEC Media Days. The Tennessee Volunteers coach will welcome the former one back to Knoxville this year.

“I certainly hope our fan base hasn’t cooled off,” Heupel said Monday at SEC Media Days. “So you know whether it’s the grocery stores being fully stocked with mustard or, you know, our sports stores making sure that they got reinforcements on the golf balls, hopefully, Knoxville’s ready for his arrival.”

Kiffin will be on tour visiting his former schools. The LSU coach will return to Ole Miss in Week 3 before playing Tennessee later in the fall. Heupel wants to ruin his homecoming by handing him loss on the way out the door.

Maybe one day Kiffin will understand how he has painted himself as the SEC's biggest villain. A role he seems comfortable playing up for all the theatrics. Kiffin went back to Tennessee a couple of years ago. But it wasn't a warm welcome. They threw golf balls and mustard at him.

Anything Tennessee fans have planned for Kiffin will look like amateur hour compared to what Ole Miss might have for him. Less than a year after ditching Ole Miss for LSU, Kiffin returns for the primetime event at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. His first time back at Oxford since leaving the Rebels after the 2025 regular season.
