Tennessee has a new concern heading into Saturday’s game against Auburn. After being left off the SEC student-athlete availability report earlier in the week, starting defensive back and punt returner Qua Moss, who has been in concussion protocol, was listed as questionable Friday, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Moss suffered an injury during the Volunteers’ 20-17 loss to Texas last week. He was hurt while making a tackle and did not return to the game.

Although Moss’s time on the field came to an early end, he had already made an impact before his departure. He supplied Tennessee with a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown as the offense searched for answers. Defensively, he has handled most of the Vols’ snaps at nickelback this season.

Through four games, Moss has recorded 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and one pass defended. If he cannot play against the Tigers, Michigan transfer Tevis Metcalf is behind him on the depth chart after replacing Moss against the Longhorns. Running back Daune Morris is listed as the option at punt returner.

Moss joined Tennessee this offseason after playing at Kansas State in 2025. Before that, he was a standout at West Georgia in 2024 after beginning his college career at Dodge City CC in 2023.

Moss is one of several Volunteers players who are unavailable or have uncertain availability. Starting guard Sham Umarov is questionable, running back Javin Gordon is doubtful, defensive lineman Nathan Robinson is probable and freshman defensive lineman Kedric Golston is out.

Tennessee has also lost seven players to season-ending injuries, including starting left guard Wendell Moe, starting safety Edrees Farooq, starting tight end Ethan Davis, safety Dylan Lewis, wide receiver/kick returner Joakim Dodson, linebacker Jaedon Harmon and cornerback Jadais Richard.
