The Texas Longhorns made a big splash in the 2027 recruiting class when landing a commitment from wide receiver Easton Royal. Out of New Orleans, Louisiana, he is one of the most sought-after players in the country.
Royal is a five-star recruit, the No. 1 wide receiver and the No. 7 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings. As a junior at Brother Martin High School, he racked up 57 receptions for 1,374 yards and 19 touchdowns. His performance earned him first-team honors on the MaxPreps Junior All-America Team.
Texas beat out several top schools for his commitment. Royal held offers from the Ole Miss Rebels, Miami Hurricanes, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
However, schools continue pushing for a flip, with the Rebels traveling to visit the wide receiver on Tuesday. Royal has taken notice of the Rebels’ coaching change.
Lane Kiffin was replaced by Pete Golding, who is from Hammond, Louisiana. Following the visit, Royal mentioned the link he and Golding share, both hailing from the same state.
“They just came to my school and we had a two-hour meeting,” Royal told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman. “They’ve been recruiting me hard still, too, and we have that Louisiana connection.”
Ole Miss is slowly building its 2027 cycle, which as of now has just three commitments. That includes four-star quarterback Keegan Croucher, who is the only player on the offensive side of the ball.
The Rebels continue to threaten Texas. Spiegelman also wrote that Royal is planning to schedule an official visit with Ole Miss. With the early signing period typically falling in December, the Longhorns will do their best to keep Royal onboard.
