The Texas A&M Aggies hired head coach Mike Elko a year ago with hopes that he would elevate the program and take them to the top of the sport, capable of competing for national championships. So far, the proof has been in the pudding, with the Aggies storming out to a 9-0 record and the No. 3 ranking in the nation this year.

In turn, Texas A&M is now rewarding Elko for that success.

According to multiple reports on Saturday morning, Elko is expected to sign a contract extension with Texas A&M that will keep him in College Station for the foreseeable future and make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the nation.

Elko is 17-5 as head coach at Texas A&M since taking over ahead of the 2024 season, and their 9-0 mark is the best since 1992 in College Station.

Texas A&M has a couple of winnable games on the schedule against South Carolina and Samford over the next two weeks, and then they prepare to meet the Texas Longhorns in a regular-season finale that is expected to have College Football Playoff ramifications riding on it.

If the Aggies can win all of those games, then Elko is going to prove that this contract extension was well worth it.
