Texas A&M football stands alone at the top of the 2027 College Football Recruiting rankings. But now head coach Mike Elko and company secured a massive 2028 win Saturday. Four-star quarterback Donald Tabron II now arrives to eventually succeed Marcel Reed.
The Detroit native and star of Cass Technical revealed his decision to join the Aggies via Hayes Fawcett of On3. Elko and the SEC power land the nation’s No. 3 overall quarterback per the outlet.
Texas A&M continues to jump ahead of a competitive recruiting race across the nation. The resources at the College Station university clearly wins over recruits along with Elko’s ecosystem in place. Tabron shared to AggieYell via On3/Rivals that both elements indeed won him over.

“The culture and what’s being built at Texas A&M with coach Elko, coach [Holmon] Wiggins, coach [Joey] Lynch, and coach Troop [Trooper Taylor] on the offensive side of the ball,” Tabron said.
He adds the top-ranked 2027 class played another role.
“Being able to see this recruiting class in the 2027 class and the guys they’re bringing in to A&M and really building for the future. The last few years, they’ve been slowly trending upwards,” Tabron added. “Last year, going 11-2 and being an interception away from moving on to the quarterfinals. I’m very excited to not only join this 2028 class, but be able to see this 2027 class do great things.”
Elko and the Aggies land a QB who owns a 23-1 overall record before his junior season. Tabron already owns 52 career touchdowns and a state ring in Michigan.
