No. 3 Texas A&M (10-0, 7-0 SEC) made program and SEC history after defeating South Carolina 31-30, coming back from a 30-3 haltime deficit that sent shock waves through the colllege football landscape, led by starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s career high 439 passing yards, including 298 yards and three touchdowns in the second half.
While wide receivers KC Concpecion (7 rec, 158 yards) and Ashton Bethel-Roman (4 rec, 139 yards) led the Aggies through the air, redshirt freshman wide receiver Izaiah Williams, who flipped from Florida to Texas A&M in the 2023 recruiting class, has seldom seen the field this season, mainly due to Bethel-Roman’s rise during the preseason.
However, star transfer WR Mario Craver, who dealt with an injury throughout last week, played just 19 snaps, providing Williams a chance to make an impact as soon as he touched the field, which resulted in running wide open for a 27-yard touchdown that started the Aggies’ historic second-half run.
In just ten snaps, Williams reeled in three receptions for 50 yards and earned Pro Football Focus’s highest team grade (91.0) on offense, averaging 16.7 yards per reception. This win was a whole team effort, and knowing that, even when Mario Craver wasn’t at full health, Williams can be trusted to provide Marcel Reed another reliable option in the passing game.
On Tuesday, Williams, who was reportedly confident that the Aggies would storm back for the win, spoke to TexAgs about his and his team’s mindset during the halftime break.
“I felt like everbody believed we could do it. I was telling my teammates, get ready to write history, because I knew we were gonna come back.”
This confidence runs deep through the roster, as Marcel Reed’s two first-half interceptions felt like a distant memory after halftime, throwing dart after dart to every open receiver. Regarding Williams’ play time after this performance, his future is bright, and he could see elevated snaps, starting with Saturday’s home matchup vs. FCS Samford.
