No. 3 Texas A&M (8-0, 5-0 SEC) will take on No. 19 Missouri in Columbia on Saturday afternoon. Before the Aggies look to stay undefeated, head coach Mike Elko spoke to the media for the first time since the bye week, providing several key updates while discussing his outlook on where he and his talented team stand heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Elko, who is one of the most respected defensive minds in the country, has already become a highly sought-after head coach after just a season and a half, and while he has all but shut down any rumor regarding his connection to the recent Penn State head coach opening, and amid the Aggies’ historic success this season, the New Jersey native is entirely focus on the job at hand.

Mike Elko is a straight shooter during every press conference, and has given those of us in the media plenty to write about, including his current mindset surrounding the Aggies’ 8-0 record, and how the team will enter the remaining four games before, hopefully, making it to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history.

“I think we are desperate. I tell them all the time, you know, we have earned everything that we’ve got right? We’ve got a record, we’ve got a ranking, we’ve got opportunities that we have worked really, really hard to earn. and every single Saturday, someone’s coming in and trying to take all of that from us.”

This is an elite mindset: knowing that, as the No. 3-ranked team and just one of four undefeated teams left in the country, Texas A&M will be in an “upset” situation every week, except for hosting Samford one week before the regular-season finale road test vs. Texas.

We’ve already seen the Aggies consistently compete every week, especially starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who, despite throwing two first-half interceptions against LSU, stormed back in the second half to finish with over 300 total yards and four touchdowns, en route to a 49-25 blowout road win.
