Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class is well represented during this weekend’s Under Armour All-American Game. During Tuesday’s check-in portion of the event, five-star cornerback John Meredith, who is at the event, briefly discussed his recruiting process and named his two top contenders heading into the new year. Meredith is the No. 1-overall recruit in the 2027 cycle.

For Aggie fans in the recruiting loop, Meredith has been connected to Texas A&M for the last few months, even receiving a prediction to land the standout prospect back in October amid the Aggies’ success during the 2025 season. However, another SEC program has emerged as a serious contender, as Alabama is now Texas A&M’s primary competition, according to On3/Rivals insider Steve Wiltfong.

“Texas A&M and Alabama the co-leaders for Arlington (Texas) five-star and No. 1 overall recruit John Meredith. Ohio State is after them on the list, followed by Texas. He plans to make a decision this spring”

Both programs will have the opportunity to host Meredith for a visit in the coming weeks. At the same time, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill will look to make an immediate push, especially knowing that Alabama is still in the College Football Playoff, making it more challenging for head coach Kalen DeBoer to focus on recruiting.

Meredith’s 6’2″ frame and notable length and track speed allow him to play press man and zone at an equally efficient level, and he is one of the better deep coverage cornerback prospects in the country, which is why he is widely seen as the No. 1-ranked corner in the 2027 class.
